Privacy Policy
Handycash is focused on data protection and transparency. We would like to take this opportunity to explain how we may collect, retain, process, share and transfer your Personal Data when you visit our Site or use our Handycash Mobile Services.
Registration and Identification
During the installation of the Handycash App on the smartphone, you will be requested to enter your phone number. This phone number will be verified for security reasons. Should you change your mobile phone number, you must immediately inform Handycash AG of the new phone number by contacting Handycash AG office.
No other personal information is requested or stored.
The identification of the mobile phone is managed through a randomly generated Personal Ledger Number (PLN). Should a user decide to register more than one smartphone, each device is assigned a unique PLN. Only this randomized ledger number is used to perform the necessary operations to manage Handycash operation on the user’s smartphone.
Likewise, Handycash-enabled cash registers, vending machines, payment systems, and other merchant’s Handycash-enabled infrastructure are identified by a randomly generated Merchant Ledger Number (MLN).
Processing of Data
When loading cash onto a mobile phone or spending previously loaded cash at a, merchant-enabled Handycash terminal, these randomised ledger numbers of both parties (PLN & MLN), the amount, as well as the date and time of the transactions are recorded and stored in the Handycash system that consist of: (1) merchant Handycash-enabled terminal that was used for this transaction, (2) the Handycash App on the user’s smartphone, and (3) on the Handycash Cloud Server. No data from the user’s smartphone will be access or used at any time.
If the merchant-enabled Handycash terminal supports additional functionality, other information such as product numbers and number of items purchased may be recorded and stored for the merchant supply chain management-related purposes (but no personal data is collected, retained, shared or transferred). The same information will be accessible on the Handycash app for the user (i.e., 100% transparency at all levels).
The recorded transactions will be aggregated into anonymised reports for supply chain management-related functions and ensuring an overall safe operation of the Handycash System.
Transactions will be stored for the duration that is required by local laws. Once that retention period is over, the unnecessary data that is no longer needed to fulfil the Handycash services will be deleted from the Handycash App, merchant-enabled Handycash terminal and Handycash Cloud Servers.
Using Handycash
After downloading and registering the Handycash App, the App starts with an empty purse. The user must load cash into the mobile app using either an automated Handycash-enabled loading station or at a Handycash-enabled cash register of an operator or merchant.
Once money has been loaded into Handycash purse, it can be spent on Handycash-enabled vending machines and cash registers. Overspending is not possible.
Either operation must be initiated by the user by unlocking and holding his or her smartphone close to the Handycash-enabled terminal. It is neither possible to initiate a transaction with a locked smartphone nor over a distance of around 10 cm.
Communication
All communications of Handycash between the Mobile App and Handycash-enabled payment systems are encrypted and digitally signed.
Messages between the payment terminal and the mobile phone are transferred over NFC and Bluetooth connections and are encrypted. Messages between the mobile phone and the server are transferred using Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption protocol for additional security.
Encryption ensures, no eavesdropper can listen in on the communications. Digitally signing ensures, no changes to the transactions remain undetected, whether accidental or intentional.
Logging / Usage Statistics
The Handycash App does not record user interactions. Only Handycash-related transactional data is stored - refer to “Processing of Data”.
The server does record IP Address, date and time of a message exchanged. As messages are encrypted, an association with a ledger number and hence a user is not possible. These logs are regularly purged.
In-App Messages
The Handycash App contains an internal messaging system. Handycash or an operator can publish messages to all participants or a specific mobile phone. In-app messages are addressed by the personal ledger number, not the mobile phone number. Users’ phone numbers are never shared with third parties for any sales or marketing purposes.
Opened in-app messages are marked read on the mobile phone. There is no read-receipt, which lets the sender know that the message has been displayed.
Disclosure of Data
Handycash never discloses personal data to third parties. Personal data refers to data that can be assigned to an individual. The only exceptions are the disclosure of data to contract data processors who handle certain data on behalf of Handycash or authorities in cases where we are legally bound to do so.
Children’s Privacy
The Handycash Services are not intended for children under the age of 13.
